Floor cleaner dilution calculator

Convert a cleaning chemical dilution ratio into ounces or milliliters of concentrate for your floor scrubber solution tank.

1:128 is 1 oz per gallon; 1:64 is 2 oz per gallon

The dilution math

A ratio of 1:X means one part concentrate to X parts water. One US gallon is 128 fluid ounces, so a 1:128 ratio is one ounce per gallon, 1:64 is two ounces per gallon and 1:256 is half an ounce per gallon.

concentrate (oz) = tank gallons × 128 ÷ (X + 1)

Ratiooz per gallonml per liter
1:323.930
1:642.015.4
1:1281.07.8
1:2560.53.9
1:5120.252.0

The tool uses the exact formula (concentrate plus water equals the tank volume). Many labels simplify by adding the concentrate to a full measure of water. At typical floor care ratios the difference is under one percent.

Why accurate dilution matters

Too much concentrate leaves residue that makes floors sticky and slippery, and it creates foam that can reach the vacuum motor. Too little and soil stays on the floor. Always follow the product label and SDS. Read dilution ratios explained for worked examples.

Frequently asked questions

How much floor cleaner do I put in a 10 gallon scrubber tank?

At 1:128 you need about 10 ounces (roughly 300 ml) of concentrate in a 10 gallon tank. Always check the product label, because ratios vary by product and soil level.

Is more chemical better for dirty floors?

Usually not. Extra concentrate leaves residue and foam. For heavy soil, use a product made for that soil, slow down, or double scrub.

Should I add the chemical before or after the water?

Add water first, then chemical. Pouring concentrate into an empty tank and then blasting in water creates foam.

What does 1:64 mean in ounces per gallon?

About 2 ounces of concentrate per gallon of solution (1.97 oz using the exact formula).
