Solution Delivery Systems

The solution system decides how much water and chemical reach the floor, and getting that amount right matters more than most operators think. Too little solution and the brushes scrub dry, soil is not suspended, and pads glaze. Too much and the squeegee cannot keep up, the recovery tank fills before the solution tank empties, and you get water trails, foam, and wasted chemical.

On most walk-behind machines solution flows by gravity from the tank, through a filter, past an electric solenoid valve, and out to the brushes. Larger machines and many newer models add a pump so flow stays steady as the tank drains, and some add a dosing system that meters concentrate separately from clean water. Typical flow runs from about 0.1 to 1 gal/min (0.4 to 3.8 L/min) depending on machine and setting.

These guides cover how the system works in tanks and solution flow, how to choose and verify a setting with a simple bucket test in solution flow settings, and how to clean and test the parts that most often stop flow in solution solenoid and filters. If you use onboard chemical metering, see chemical dosing systems. Chasing a dry machine right now? Go straight to no solution flow.
